Description
The spiky-haired one knows no bounds! If he’s not scaling Beechy Head to remonstrate with some errant chef about his technique for cooking bangers, he’s on TV advising us how to cater for friends or most recently appearing at The Albert Hall in a Royal Variety Celebration. Not content with one top class restaurant in Manchester (our current Hi-Life Overall Restaurant of the Year Award Winner) he’s now in partnership with The Portland Thistle Hotel to bring us his latest concept – ‘A Touch of Rhodes’ Situated in the heart of the city, on Portland Street, opposite the soon to be rejuvenated Piccadilly Gardens, this new eatery has a wonderful and invigorating environment - very much in the mould of its progenitor. The cuisine, of course, is the real star, with Gary’s modern English classics very much coming to the fore. The atmosphere is relaxed and stylish and I’m sure this new establishment in the Hi-Life repertoire will soon give Rhodes & Co. a run for their money in the restaurant award stakes - or for those who are partial to the odd bad joke, steaks!

" We went to this restaurant on Saturday 16th June. When we arrived there was a large party having a meal and we informed of the situation. We waited in the lounge area and had a drink whilst we waited. This was not a problem for us. We ordered our food and wine and were shown to our table. We both ordered the ham and black pudding terrine and we both enjoyed it.The mains consisted of lamb for me and duck for OH and were very good .The puddings were also very good I had rhubarb and apple trifle, the nicest pudding I have had for a long time. OH had white chocolate brulee. The service was excellent and the ambience was in keeping with a quality hotel and customers not wanting a brash atmosphere. The bill was incorrect but it was sorted without fuss. "

" The description of this restaurant on-line is wrong. It is just somewhere to eat in a hotel. The menu was very limited (steak, salmon, chicken and veg) and NOT what was shown on the door. There is no atmosphere at all. "
