Full Description
Stock is a superb Italian restaurant situated in the old Manchester Stock Exchange building - hence the name - on little known Norfolk Street (parallel to Market Street and just off Pall Mall behind Boots). Although a little off the beaten track, it is well worth locating because it is one of the few authentic Italian restaurants outside the capital that always gets mentioned by national food writers, and to make a mark on their London-centric consciousness shows how good it is. It is a wonderful combination of the classical and contemporary with the entrance having much wood panelled walls and marble floors. The main dining room is in the original trading floor beneath a huge ornate dome, with padded banquette seats around the walls and a striking modern bar with a steel cable supported glass canopy. In this most striking of rooms, award-winning chef Enzo Mauro, previous Hi Life "Chef of the Year", creates his culinary magic. Dishes on offer include starters like Rognoncini E Fungi Su Bruschetta, lambs kidneys cooked with Marsala wine, mushrooms and black grapes and served on bruschetta. With mains like Costoletto Di Cinghiale Alla Salvia - cutlet of wild board cooked with sage and served on a bed of red cabbage and apples. With Enzo ably assisted front of house by son Alex, it is a true family run enterprise that members would be well advised to invest their time in seeking out, as it will certainly pay dividends.
