Full Description
For years now, I’ve been a convert to that most wonderful and artistic of Asiatic cuisine’s - Japanese - and am pleased to note that many diners thoroughly agree with me, at least judging by the number of Japanese restaurants that have opened their doors in the last few years. The latest, and certainly one of the best is the newly opened Samsi, pleasantly situated on Whitworth Street (sister to their outlets in Wilmslow and Chester) Now, one thing to clarify is that not all Japanese eateries are Teppanyaki - sizzling hot cooking tables at which your chef juggles with meat cleavers amid spurts of flame. Here at Samsi, the dining experience is certainly much calmer without them. Spread over three levels, their main dining area is on the ground floor and looks wonderfully authentic, with its blond wood flooring, banners with Japanese motifs and illuminated screens. Their menu features most types of Japanese staples from Sushi and Sashimi, to the National Dish Tempura (actually introduced by Portuguese traders in the late 16th century) And if your understanding of Japanese prevents you from knowing your Norimaki from your Nigiri then donÕt worry, all is explained on the menu. Samsi is an innovative concept that I am sure will soon generate a loyal and committed following - not least because of their ground breaking ideas. They serve clear sweet soy sauce soup (try saying that when you’re drunk!) with last orders to deter hangovers - and from my experience, it certainly does work.
