Full Description
The Cloth Ear is The Merchant Hotel’s comfortable public bar. The warm and welcoming interior provides an ideal environment to relax and enjoy yourself in style, combining both modern and traditional elements with a healthy dose of the eccentric. This nod to the quirky includes many unique items of vintage and antique clothing, wooden moose and deer heads and classic 1930’s – 1950’s sheet music which adorns the walls. The food in The Cloth Ear is intrinsically comforting. Inspired by homemade favourites it is nostalgic yet fresh and creative, making use of the best locally sourced produce. A specials sheet is also a feature of The Cloth Ear dining experience, which changes daily, allowing the chefs to really capitalise on the freshest seasonal ingredients. Some classic forgotten dishes, which are firm favourites, include the Boxty. Homemade potato pancakes cooked on the griddle served with a variety of fillings. Fillings include ‘Smoked haddock, prawn and leek’ or ‘Peppered beef and field mushrooms in Irish whiskey cream sauce’. Another classic is the ‘Belfast Bap’, a local crusty bap again served with a variety of fillings. These dishes compliment the ‘comfort food’ offerings from lasagne or chowder to battered local fish and chips. Aswell as a great selection of wines, spirits and cocktails, The Cloth Ear offers a fantastic range of bottled beers, both international and local. In short The Cloth Ear has great food, an imaginative menu, friendly service and a great buzz.
